Heritage Tours & Safaris recently hosted Nat Geo Wild in the Umfolozi Game Reserve, the emphasis on the visit to this incredible game reserve was for the African Wild Dog. The Umfolozi Game Reserve at present has of the largest population of Wild Dog this program to increase numbers and learn more offered the crew an incredible insight into the movements, structure and history of the animals.
The Wild Dogs have adapted well to the environment and have increased in numbers with the odd Wild Dog roaming out of the reserve. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has appointed some of the most dedicated and passionate staff to this project and meeting with them is such a treat to understand to what length they goto to ensure the project remains a success. The cew from Nat Geo Wild where taken along to track the Wild Dogs and luck would have it that all clients where offered an opportunity to witness these animals. Wild Dogs seen as a pest in the agricultural sector before where hunted to near extiction and now through various programs they are slowly starting to grow in numbers. In Zululand one may encouter Wild Dogs in various reserves however the Umfolozi Game Reserve will give you the best opportunity. At present the Mkuze Game Reserve has also introduced the Wild Dogs and have had pups as of late.
So if you ever wanted to see these great animals travel to Zululand and be inspired. We would like to thank the staff of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife for making this opportunity a reality for Nat Geo Wild , Zululand a true paradise.
