The Game Reserve Hluhluwe-Umfolozi offers various types of accommodation lodgings from lodge to tented camps.

The award-winning Hilltop Camp on the summit of a forested hill offers fine views of the surrounding countryside. The camp, the oldest in KwaZulu-Natal, was extensively rebuilt and enlarged in the early nineties, and today accommodation at Hilltop ranges from a luxury lodge to a variety of superbly appointed self-catering accommodation facilities. All units are serviced daily. From the bottom of the price range up, facilities include: twenty 2-bedded rondavels with communal ablutions and kitchens; seven 2-bedded and twenty-two 4-bedded self-catering chalets. Twenty 2-bedded chalets, which are not self-catering, are within close proximity to the main reception area. This area includes an a la carte restaurant, an attractive pub and lounge decorated with photographs and memorabilia of the history of Hluhluwe, as well as a gift shop and convenience store.
A forest trail is available to guests at Hilltop. Hlaza Hide has been developed at the site of the old summerhouse in Hilltop Camp and it will shortly incorporate a waterhole with soft lighting at night to aid game viewing.
The Mpunyane Restaurant offers a full English buffet breakfast every day. Lunches from Monday to Saturday are a la carte and on Sundays a hot and cold buffet. Dinners are either a hot and cold buffet or a traditional braai(barbeque) depending on the weather. Dinner arrangements do change according to guest profiles and holidays.
Bush Lodge Accommodation:

Mtwazi Lodge is a beautiful thatched house set in a magnificent garden which was once the home of the original warden of the reserve. Now a comfortable eight bedded lodge comprising three bedrooms each with its own private bathroom and an annex bedroom with its own shower and toilet. Mtwazi is a self-catering facility.
Muntulu and Munywaneni are up-market bush lodges comprising four separate en suite bedrooms with secluded verandahs overlooking the Hluhluwe River. There is also a central viewing lounge and kitchen complex. The bush lodges provide complete privacy and can house up to eight people. A cook/caretaker is in attendance and a field ranger is available to take visitors on walks.
Rough it in absolute style in the luxurious seclusion of Muntulu Bush Lodge. Set on an elevated bank , the lounge looks down into the palm lined Hluhluwe River where a variety of animals, including elephant and rhino, gather daily to quench their thirst. Hluhluwe is big five country and visitors can see the tawny shapes of lions moving through the bush and hear the cough of a leopard at night.
The camp consists of four two bed units with en-suite bathrooms which are linked by wooden walkways to the central lounge and dining area.
Visitors needs are attended to by staff who cook and clean and a field ranger who, on request, takes visitors on walks through the african bush.
Visitors must bring food for the meals they want and the drinks of their choice. Our cooks can produce a variety of tasty meals to suit the bush lodge life style. Limited supplies of food and drink can be purchased at the shop at Hilltop Camp which is a half hours drive away. Mtwazi Lodge
Mtwazi Lodge is close to the renowned Hilltop Camp in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, and boasts a magnificent setting under a large sycamore fig within its own secluded bushveld garden. This eight-bedded lodge, once the original home of the warden of the reserve, features memorabilia from the rich history of the Hluhluwe Game Reserve.
The accommodation comprises three bedrooms each with its own private bathroom and an annex bedroom with its own shower and toilet. A sumptuous lounge and dining area lead out onto a large flagstone veranda, and from there into a magnificent tropical garden shaded by a gloriously spreading tree. The Game Reserve itself is Africa’s oldest and lies in the heart of the Zulu Kingdom, where ancient trails lead through the thornveld and along the mighty rivers of what was once the exclusive hunting ground of King Shaka. Here close encounters with wildlife on foot or in a vehicle are the order of the day. Mtwazi is a self-catering facility which is serviced once a day. The services of a cook are provided. Visitors also have the option of eating in the camp restaurant.
Munyweneni Bush Lodge
This bush lodge overlooks the confluence of the Hluhluwe River and the Munyweneni Stream. Set in parklike surroundings it commands a splendid game viewing vista looking across a sea of Fenix reclinata, the reclining palm, to an ancient game trail that daily sees a large variety of animals moving back and forth between feeding areas and a safe river ford and drinking spot.
Large Sycamore figs drop their sweet fruit onto the bank attracting families of bush pigs that appear out of faint trails in the bush and root about below the camp. An open plan lounge and dining area adjoins four two bed sleeping units with en-suite shower and toilet. In the Umfolozi Game Reserve the following Accommodation is available: 

Mpila Camp
Centrally situated in the Imfolozi section, Mpila Camp commands magnificent views of the Wilderness area.
Twelve single-room thatched 2 bed chalets, accommodating two people each, have recently been upgraded with ensuite bathrooms, kitchenette and decks. All 12×2 beds are self-catering units with crockery and utensils provided Each unit has a veranda and is electrified.
Mpila also has two self-contained 3-bedroomed cottages, each accommodating seven people, with a cook on hand to prepare food supplied by guests.
For smaller groups, there are also six self-catering chalets which accommodate five people each. These have two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, and a lounge/diningroom.
The Safari Tented Camp at Mpila consists of thirteen 2-bedded and two 4- bedded units, all with bathroom en-suite. An optional third bed is available in each tent on request.
Each unit has a verandah and is electrified. A fully equipped kitchen and dining area is connected to each tent by a wooden boardwalk. Barbecue facilities are available. These units are self-catering and are serviced daily.
Unleaded petrol is available, and curios, cool drinks and camera film can be purchased from the Mpila Camp Shop, but no provisions or restaurant facilities are provided
Elevated on a terrace overlooking the Black Mfolozi River, this bush lodge is situated in the heart of the park and provides excellent opportunities for walks into a part of Imfolozi that most people never see. The lodge is situated in a well grown stand of umThombothi trees in a park like setting with the grass grazed short by the resident group of white rhino.
The view from the deck stretches down across the Black Mfolozi River where crocodiles and hippos occur and as you sip your early morning coffee or gather for sundowners in the evening you can see a variety of animals make their way out of the surrounding bush to drink cautiously from the edge of the river.

Elevated on a peninsula overlooking the confluence of the Black Mfolozi River and the Gqoyeni Stream, this bush lodge offers excellent game viewing opportunities in an ideal setting.The lounge offers uninterupted views of the sand banks and reed beds of the river which is a favourite drinking spot for family groups of elephants where youngsters mock battle and play in the sand and water of this “beach”.
Lone buffalo bulls “dagga boys” appear and disappear into the thick reed beds and on cold mornings lions lie out on the sand to bask in the warm sun. The four two bed units, each with a shower and toilet en-suite, are linked with the lounge and dining area by wooden boardwalks. Masinda Lodge is a self-catering lodge situated in the northern section of the Imfolozi Game Reserve and commands panoramic views over the bushveld and rocky ridges to the south. Renowned for its rich and diverse wildlife, the park teems with a wide variety of fascinating fauna and flora including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, blue wildebeest, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, warthog and over 300 bird species.
The roars of lion are often heard at night as guests congregate around the campfire drinking in the unique and magical sounds of the bush!
